How to report material you believe infringes your copyright, and what happens next.

austories is a hosting service for user-created work. We do not review content before it is posted, and creators are responsible for what they upload. When a rights holder tells us about infringing material, we act on it.

Reporting infringement

If you own the copyright in material posted on austories, or you are authorised to act for the owner, email copyright@austories.com. To help us act quickly, please include:

  1. Your name, and the company or person you represent.
  2. A description of the work you own, and where the original can be seen if possible.
  3. A link to the specific panel, image, episode or series on austories that you are reporting.
  4. A statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised by you, your agent, or the law.
  5. A statement that the information in your report is accurate, and that you are the owner or are authorised to act on the owner's behalf.
  6. Your signature (typing your full name is fine).
Please report in good faith. If you are not sure whether a use is infringing, fan works are often a genuinely unsettled area, so consider seeking advice first. Knowingly false reports waste everyone's time and may carry legal consequences.

What we do when we receive a report

  1. We log the report and check it identifies the work and the material.
  2. If it is complete, we promptly remove or disable access to the material and record a strike against the account that posted it.
  3. We tell the creator what was removed, share the reason, and explain how to reply.

We do not decide who is right. A complete report results in removal, and a complete reply from the creator can result in the material being restored. Disputes about ownership are between the parties.

If your work was removed

If your work was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, reply to the notice we sent you, or email copyright@austories.com. Include:

  1. Which material was removed, and where it appeared before removal.
  2. Why you believe it was removed by mistake, for example that it is your own original work, or that you have permission to use it.
  3. Your name and contact details, and your signature.

We review replies and, where appropriate, forward them to the party who reported the material. If the matter is not resolved against you, we may restore the work.

Repeat infringers

We remove the accounts of repeat infringers. A completed takedown results in one strike. 3 active strikes suspends the account. Strikes expire after 12 months, and a strike is voided if the material is restored. This policy is applied consistently and we cannot waive it on request.

Reporting something that is not copyright

For harassment, private information, sexual content involving real people or minors, or impersonation, use the report button on the work itself, or email safety@austories.com. Those reports are handled under the Content Policy and are usually faster than a copyright report.
